General Carpentry
This course covers the history of the Carpentry trade, describes the related apprentice program and identifies career opportunities for carpenters. Students will learn the basic skills, responsibilities and characteristics that a knowledgeable carpenter should possess. This course covers all the safety aspects needed to work in the carpentry and/or construction fields. Students will learn about different building materials, such as fasteners and adhesives, and will learn to utilize both hand and power tools. This course teaches students how to create construction drawings, specifications and layouts. They will learn a basic understanding of floor and wall systems, ceiling joists and roof framing and will be able to create and build basic stair layouts.
